Underwriting Team Leader

We’re looking for a passionate Underwriting Team Leader to manage our Underwriting and Payouts teams — someone who can inspire, mentor, and drive excellence while acting as the department SME.

As an Underwriting Team Leader, you’ll play a crucial role in ensuring the quality, consistency, and regulatory compliance of our underwriting decisions. You’ll lead a team of Underwriters and Payout Agents, supporting them through coaching, training, structured development, and day-to-day guidance.

What You'll Be Doing

✅  Assess complex HP credit applications within delegated authority.

✅ Provide recommendations or escalate higher-risk cases when necessary.

✅ Ensure decision quality aligns with policies, affordability requirements, and FCA regulations.

✅ Team Management & Development.

✅ Lead, mentor, and support Underwriters and Payout Agents.

✅ Deliver structured training, onboarding, and ongoing coaching.

✅ Conduct regular 1:1s and performance reviews.

✅ Assist with recruitment and succession planning.

About You 🌟

We’re looking for someone who brings expertise, confidence, and a passion for developing others.

You'll likely have:

 💭 Minimum 2 years of underwriting experience in financial services.

🚗 Motor Finance experience preferred.

⏰ Previous line management or strong mentoring experience.

👏 A desire to take on a bigger challenge or step into leadership.

💜 Approachable, supportive leadership style.

✅ Strong commercial awareness and confident decision-making.
