How does Marsh Finance support employees wellbeing?

May is Mental Health Awareness Month, a time to recognise the importance of mental health and wellbeing in our lives. At Marsh Finance, this is a topic that is not taken lightly. The company has a strong commitment to mental health awareness and is dedicated to supporting its employees’ mental wellbeing.

One shining example of this commitment is Alisa Scholes, a mental health first aider at Marsh Finance.

Alisa is not only a valuable member of the Marsh Finance team but also a trained professional in identifying and addressing mental health concerns in the workplace.

In this article, we will take a closer look at Alisa’s role as a mental health first aider at Marsh Finance and how her work helps to foster a supportive and caring environment for all employees. We will also highlight the various initiatives that Marsh Finance has in place to promote mental health awareness and provide resources for those in need.

Through this article, we hope to showcase Marsh Finance’s dedication to the well-being of its employees and inspire others to prioritise mental health awareness in their own workplaces.

Why did Alisa become a mental health first aider?

Her decision was fuelled by a deeply personal experience, an unwavering commitment to supporting those in need, and a burning desire to positively impact people’s lives.

Professional aspirations did not solely drive the path Alisa chose; it was profoundly rooted in her own family’s struggles. Alisa decided to embark on a journey to become a mental health first aider in 2020, so she could provide support to those around her.

But it wasn’t just personal experiences that propelled Alisa on this path of compassion; she also recognised the mounting pressures of the modern work environment. The relentless demands, financial strains, and the relentless march of technology often take their toll on employees, leaving them vulnerable to mental health challenges. Alisa vividly recalls the story of a colleague who had a family member battling cancer. For three long years, she stood by her side, providing the unwavering support she needed to weather the storm. Even though they no longer work together, Alisa remains her pillar of strength, offering her support for five years and counting.

Ultimately, Alisa’s motivation to become a mental health first aider can be distilled down to one simple principle: to be there for others when they need it most. Whether it’s a colleague struggling with overwhelming stress, a friend in the grips of anxiety, or a stranger battling their inner demons, Alisa is there, ready to lend an ear, offer guidance, and provide the empathy that can make all the difference.

What support can a mental health first aider provide?

As a mental health first aider at Marsh Finance, Alisa’s main goal is to lend an empathetic ear and provide employees with the guidance they need. Think of Alisa as your trusted confidant, here to listen without judgment and help you navigate the complex world of mental well-being.

Confidentiality is key in any conversation with a mental health first aider. All employees can open up to our trained experts knowing that whatever they share will be held in the strictest confidence. We all have moments when we need someone to talk to, to unload our worries, fears, or frustrations. Alisa is here to be that safe space for our team, where they can express themselves freely and find comfort in knowing their privacy is respected.

Her role as a mental health first-aider extends beyond just lending an ear. She’s also equipped with a wealth of knowledge about available resources and support networks. If our team need specialised assistance, she can guide them to the right places where they can access free, anonymous, and expert help. Whether it’s counselling services, helplines, or community support groups, she’ll be there to point them in the right direction, ensuring they receive the assistance that best suits their needs.

At Marsh Finance, we firmly believe everyone deserves the opportunity to thrive in a supportive environment. By offering mental health first-aiders like Alisa, the company demonstrates its commitment to fostering a workplace culture that prioritises the mental well-being of its employees.

Why is mental health awareness month still needed in the UK?

In today’s fast-paced world, filled with pressures and challenges at every turn, mental health awareness month remains an essential focus in UK workplaces. The impact of various issues on individuals’ mental wellbeing can be far-reaching, starting from childhood and continuing into adolescence and adulthood. Significant traumas or simply the need for someone to talk to can have lasting effects. As responsible employers, it’s crucial that we create an environment where every individual feels they have someone to turn to. Whether it’s a listening ear or guidance to navigate the maze of available resources, we must ensure that no one feels alone or uncertain about where to seek support. Because, at the end of the day, we understand that it’s okay to not be okay today, and by fostering mental health awareness, we can make a positive difference in the lives of our employees.

Alisa’s well-being tips!

When it comes to wellness tips, Alisa has a wealth of insights to share, gathered from her experiences supporting others on their mental health journeys. One valuable lesson she has learned is that everyone’s needs and preferences are unique. Some individuals may not feel comfortable talking about their struggles every day, and that’s perfectly okay. Alisa has found a simple yet effective solution to this by establishing a code with the people she supports.

Imagine waking up in the morning and receiving a text from Alisa with a thumbs-up emoji. It’s a signal that she’s there for you, ready to lend an ear if you need it. But here’s the beauty of it: you have the power to decide. If you’re in the mood to chat, you can reply with a thumbs-down emoji, indicating that you’re open to a conversation. Alisa then reaches out and gives you a call, ensuring that you have the space to share your thoughts and emotions when you’re ready. It’s a subtle yet powerful way to respect your boundaries while offering ongoing support.

Apart from her personalised approach, Alisa also recommends a fantastic resource that has made a significant impact on many individuals’ mental well-being—the Thrive Mental Wellbeing app. This app is a true game-changer, offering a suite of services designed to engage and motivate you on your mental health journey. It’s not just another run-of-the-mill self-help app; it’s a comprehensive platform partnered with esteemed organisations and charities that truly understand the intricacies of mental health. With its innovative features and support network, the app creates a compelling experience that makes you excited to come back each day to track your progress and see how you’re doing. Alisa highly recommends giving it a try, as it has proven to be a valuable tool for countless individuals seeking to enhance their mental well-being.
